Liszt (1811-1886)
Description:
It was only in his later years that Liszt (1811-1886), who says he was born Hungarian but did not actually speak Hungarian, was hailed as a "Hungarian national hero. This Hungarian Rhapsody, a work using Hungarian folk melodies, was first written for piano and gained wide popularity. Later, with the help of the renowned flutist and composer Doppler, six pieces were orchestrated. This may be the reason why most of the fine passages on the piano are handled by the flute. The Weimar orchestra, which Liszt himself once conducted, will perform the Hungarian treasures that Liszt created with all his heart and soul. [Comment courtesy of Naxos Japan.]
