Queen Adelaide of Italy, heir to the throne.Her husband had already been killed by Berengario, Duke of Spoleto, and his wife, Mathilde, and she was forced to marry Berengario's son, Idelbert. Adelaide refuses, putting her in a difficult position, but it is the German king Lothario who saves her. After the battle, the victorious Lothario forgives everyone and the story comes to a happy ending. The success of Handel's Italian-language operas began to fade by the end of the 1720s. Written against this backdrop, "Lotario" was the first of a new series of operas intended to rekindle interest in the heroic tale. Although rarely performed among Handel's operas, the music that unfolds here is acclaimed for creating a compelling drama, highlighted by a full aria with a rich melody. This performance was recorded live at the Halle Handel Festival. In addition to the lively singing of the singers, including Mazzulli and Vistoli, the Halle Handel Festival Orchestra, conducted by Cremonesi, gives a wonderful performance. (Naxos Japan)
