Description:
The opera "Matilde di Chabran" was composed by Rossini in 1821. Rossini had originally intended to complete "Matilde" in one act and perform it in Rome, but gave up the idea for various reasons. Ferretti, the scriptwriter, proposed another original work, "Corradino," which Rossini accepted and went ahead with the composition, but kept the title "Matilde," which had been announced at the theater, and finally gave it the title "Matilde di Chablanc" or "Beauty and the Iron Heart. The premiere in Rome was not well received. Although the premiere in Rome was not well received, when the work was later performed again in Naples, Rossini made significant changes to it, and it became the "Neapolitan version" that was circulated. This production uses the original version, the Rome premiere. The up-and-coming conductor Pérez-Scherra, born in 1981 and assistant to Alberto Zedda from 2004 to 2009, has put together a comical and solid production of this delightful opera with its numerous characters.
