This is the complete libretto of the comedy *Il Giornale*, written between *The Barber of Seville* and *Cenerentola*. Based on Carlo Goldoni’s *The Marriage Contest*, it is an entertaining work that is romantic yet rich in satire. True to Rossini (1792–1868), who often composed numerous operas in a short period of time, there are instances of reused musical material; however, this actually adds to the enjoyment. A wealthy father places a newspaper ad seeking a husband for his beloved daughter; a hapless young man who searches the world over but cannot find his ideal woman; the daughter who finds herself the subject of this search; and the innkeeper who secretly loves her—these characters’ stories intertwine, and the commotion reaches its climax at a masquerade ball… You can enjoy it quite a bit just with the audio, even without the visuals.
