The album features three world premiere recordings of choral works. Joseph Turin is a composer who has received commissions from prominent organizations such as the New York Philharmonic and Lincoln Center. His cantata "And Again the Red Rose Blooms Beautifully" is based on the theme of World War I and consists of texts selected after researching a vast amount of poetry and letters to reflect the voices of those who fought and lost their lives in the war. The title is taken from a line of Vera Britten's poem "Perhaps," in which she lost her fiancé in the war, and the poem is sung by the famous singer Frederika von Stade. Richard Einhorn is a composer who has worked in a wide range of genres, including opera, film music, and ballet music. His work "The Glowing Earth," inspired by the ideas of the Buddhist philosopher Nagarjuna, is a meditative and gradually changing sounding music that intertwines a wordless chorus, strings, and piano.Gilda Lyons is a composer, vocalist, and visual artist whose highly acclaimed music combines a variety of musical styles to create emotionally rich works that have been released on numerous labels. Inspired by the poetry of poet Rubén Darío, "Momotombo" is a choral piece about a volcano in Nicaragua, her mother's homeland, and draws on his poetry and historical sources to contrast the ever-present volcano with the ever-changing nature of human life.
