If you’re thinking, “That composer’s name sounds familiar,” then you’re quite the connoisseur. That’s right. This person is, so to speak, the creator—or rather, the biographer—of P.D.Q. Bach (Bach’s 21st son???), who previously scored a massive hit worldwide. To put it simply, it was the pseudonym “Professor Sickley” used when releasing his own works, and there’s no doubt that his genre-bending “joke music” caused a sensation in the staid world of classical music. The pieces included on this album aren’t “joke music” but proper chamber music; nevertheless, in *A Year in the Catskills*, you can hear music that harkens back to the Baroque era, and it also incorporates quotes from his own works. The cheeky expression in *Dream Dance* is also quite delightful. Naxos Japan
