This is a collection of works by Robert Kraft (1874–1951) from NAXOS’s popular series. This fascinating album focuses primarily on choral works but also includes chamber music. The String Trio was commissioned by Harvard University in 1946, after Schoenberg had taken refuge in the United States. The composition was inspired by an episode involving an asthma attack—a chronic condition he suffered from—and, although written in the twelve-tone technique, it occasionally features humorous moments. The two choral works feature the magnificent music characteristic of the austere world of *Moses and Aaron*. The “Suite” for seven instruments is also a rich and intensely compelling work.
