However, thanks to the superb performance by the promising young artist Lin, this album allows listeners to fully appreciate not only its melt-in-your-mouth sweetness but also the seriousness and meticulous craftsmanship of Korngold as a classical composer. Even in his shorter pieces, his musical language is remarkably dense, and this tendency is even more pronounced in his major works like the Violin Sonata. Both the violin and piano parts are filled with the utmost technical difficulty and harmonic complexity (especially in the second movement!), it’s quite something.
