The tenth collection in the popular British Light Music series is a collection of works by Edward Jarman, who was born in the small market town of Whitchurch, Shropshire, England. Raised in a family where his father was a brewer and local church organist and his mother an amateur singer, Jarman showed a talent for music from an early age. As he grew older, he became a violinist and composer, and in 1888 he was appointed music director of the Globe Theatre in London. He was highly regarded as the successor to Arthur Sullivan, the great comic opera master. This album contains his orchestral works, all of which have beautiful melodies and an English elegance. In particular, the suite "El Gwynn" was praised by William Herbert Scott, a lifelong friend of the composer, who said it was "filled with the fragrant essence of the green forest. His early work "Henry VIII" served to enhance his reputation, and the "Gypsy Suite" shows the influence of Dvořák. Naxos Japan
