The Pleasure of Orchestral Music! Chabrier, a Frenchman who turned from a government official to a composer before the age of 40. His most famous orchestral work is "Spain," and this cheerful music is a basic item for appreciation. The "Fun March," which Debussy praised so highly, is no less cheerful. With these two pieces, Chabrier's orchestral music, including famous scenes from his operas, is sandwiched together, a rarity in an album of this kind (note especially the "Lamento"!). The main feature of this disc is the conductor. The highlight of this disc is the conductor, Niquet. He is famous for his mastery of French Baroque music, and his resilience, essential to the performance of music of that era, is surprisingly effective in the Chabrier as well. Naxos Japan
