The highly acclaimed young American ensemble, The Tykotts, elegantly performs works by Sor Teikolts, whose elegant performances have garnered acclaim in British magazines and elsewhere, returns to the Naxos collection of Sol works, once again treating us to his wonderful sound. Please start by listening to the “Serenade.” Among Sol’s works, this piece features dramatic shifts in musical character (the second movement is particularly charming, and the trumpet sound in the finale is delightful), making it an unqualified delight. The “Fantasy” from Op. 40 is one of the most highly regarded pieces among Sol’s numerous variations. If you listen to the other short pieces as well, you will realize that this is a collection of outstanding works in which Sol expresses on the guitar the music that the great masters of the Viennese Classical period entrusted to the piano.
