The "Symphonic Variations," a masterpiece from a mature period full of austerity and a large work from his ambitious boyhood, is full of the modesty and austerity typical of Franck while imposing a high level of technique on the solo piano part, and as its name suggests, the magnificent composition in which orchestra and piano are united is attractive and is the ultimate expression of maturity. The "Demon," which has a solo piano part, is a rare example of a symphonic poem with a similar tendency, and is a hidden masterpiece that is more valuable than its somewhat less fortunate performance opportunities. On the other hand, the Piano Concerto No. 2 is a work written at the age of 13! As its exaggerated name suggests, it is unique in that it is full of childish ambition, and the immature virtuoso orientation that dominates the entire work is quite amusing. Naxos Japan
