Morel)] Jason Vio (g) As you can see in the photo, performer Vio is not only handsome but also possesses solid technique and a keen sense of repertoire selection. First up is Merlin’s “Evocación”—give it a listen even if you’re skeptical; it’s truly moving. It’s also wonderful how this melody returns at the end of the suite. Kraus’s piece, composed as a competition required piece, demands virtuosic technique, but Vio plays it masterfully. The rest of the program consists entirely of rare works, but they’re all pieces you can enjoy right away.
