Sell's recording was made in the early days of his career in the U.S. (Columbia) and is characterized by clear playing as well as his conducting style. Goodman's recordings were made at the height of his popularity before the war (Victor, USA), and his sincere music reveals his personality. Mozart's "Clarinet Quintet," recorded in 1938 and reissued from the original early pressings, is a daring project featuring the "King of Swing," Benny Goodman, with the great Budapest String Quartet. The performance, which has since become a bestseller, is famous for Goodman's extroverted, unconventional style and the matchless precision of the Budapest Q. Mozart's two piano quartets, recorded in Hollywood in 1946, shortly before George Sell was elected music director of the Cleveland Orchestra, were the first This was the first record recording he made in the United States.Although he had already had a 30-year career as a conductor at the time, Sell originally began his musical career as a piano playing and composing prodigy.
