Villa-Lobos is a Brazilian master who left behind a vast body of works in all genres. This boxed set offers the entirety of his piano works. The first and second collections feature witty little pieces centered around the Debussy-influenced suite "The Baby's Family," the richly folkloric "Silandas," and the easy-to-play "Silandinha," which is easy even for beginners. The "Brazilian Poems" in the third collection, the "Simple Poems" in the fourth collection, the imposing style of the Brazilian-style Bach No. 4, and the salon-like, sentimental flavor of the "Romantic Waltz" are strongly characteristic of this composer. The "Practical Guide" in Volumes 5 and 8 is a collection of piano pieces based on Brazilian folk songs that Villa-Lobos edited from an educational perspective, and is a gorgeous work that is intended to be highly effective. The sixth and seventh collections are a straightforward expression of Villa-Lobos' creativity and imagination, which do not fit into the framework of Western classical music. Some pieces are inspired by urban landscapes and nature, others require avant-garde techniques, and the ballet music "Amazonas" shows a surprisingly experimental element. Sonia Lubinsky, who performs, is a Brazilian pianist.Born to a Polish mother and Lithuanian father, she gave her first recital at the age of five and performed with an orchestra for the first time at the age of twelve. After studying at the Campinas Conservatory, he went to Israel, where he met Rubinstein, who praised his musicianship, and has been active in North America and Europe.
