Description:

Tipo's most famous recordings on the EMI label are now available on SACD for the first time! The elegant and graceful "Golteberg" is a must-hear. This is a "Diapason d'Or" award-winning recording. The sixth digital recording to be released on SACD! New commentary included! Maria Tipo (1931/12/23-2025/2/10), one of the most famous Italian pianists, left a series of recordings including Bach and D. Scarlatti for the EMI label after 1986. The recordings of Bach and D. Scarlatti on the EMI label since 1986 have become irreplaceable for many fans. The "Golteberg Variations" in particular is still highly acclaimed today for its elegance and improvisational quality. This is the first domestic release of this masterpiece since 2006, and it has been newly converted to SACD from the digital master in its home country for this release. New commentary is included. Maria Tipo learned piano from her mother, who was a student of Busoni. In 1948, when she was still in her late teens, she won second prize in the piano section of the 10th Geneva International Competition without first prize (she was just 17 at the time), and then made a name for herself by winning first prize in the same competition the following year. The piano section of the Geneva International Competition is known as a gateway to success for many prominent artists who would go on to become world-class pianists, including Michelangeli in the first competition, F. Goulda in the eighth competition, and Argerich in 1957, but she made another attempt the year after winning the second prize and won the first prize, Her enthusiasm for the piano can be seen in the fact that she won the first prize the following year after winning the second prize. After making her debut in the U.S. in 1950, her international career grew and her fame increased, including several recordings. However, since the 1960s, the band's performance activities have been restricted, and the opportunities for contact with listeners have decreased, especially in Japan, where the band has become almost estranged. In the '70s, however, his activities gradually increased, and his recordings with Ricordi and Chetola in Italy gradually attracted attention. From 1986 to the mid-'90s, he was mainly under contract with EMI, and his reputation grew further as he produced important recordings, including this "Golteberg Variations". He also visited Japan in 1986 and the following year. Tipo's piano playing is highly acclaimed by his fellow pianists, and it is well known that he has received glowing praise from Rubinstan, Argerich, and others. D. Scarlatti, J.S. Bach, Mozart, Chopin, etc. are especially outstanding, and the few remaining recordings of these works show their excellence. This performance of the "Golteberg Variations" reflects Thiepo's talent in many ways, and is unparalleled in its prestige, elegance, and charming improvisational qualities. The "Goltberg Variations" has been out of circulation for at least a dozen years, including domestic and imported recordings, so this reissue is the first in many years. The sound quality has been enhanced for this reissue, so that the details are clearer. The mastering has been done with careful attention to the overall balance, so you will be able to relive Tipo's musical vision even more than before. (1/2)
