Description:

<The first SACD release of all of François Debussy's masterpieces on 4 discs, with the exception of 2 tracks on DISC 1! Newly reissued from the original analog master tapes. In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birth (2024) of Sanson François (1924.5.18-1970.10.22), one of France's most popular pianists, the Debussy recordings left by the former EMI have been collected in a 4-CD set. EMI has a single album (DISC1) recorded in July 1961, which is also used in the jacket design of this box set. The project started in February 1968 with the aim of recording the complete works of Debussy, but was interrupted by the sudden death of François (the recordings were made until two days before his death). This time, the gem of a recording, which should be called a legacy, is newly released on SACD.DISC 1 is the first SACD release except for "Island of Joy" and "Slower than Lent" (the others, including DISC 204, have already been released on SACD). The master was digitized at 192kHz/24bit from the original analog master tapes in Japan and mastered separately for the SACD and CD layers for this release. New commentary is included. This is a permanent edition. These recordings are not only important recordings by François, a pianist of unparalleled musical stature in the history of performance, but also stand apart from other recordings because of their uniquely nuanced playing style and interpretation. There are many uniform performances that are faithful to the score and do not stagnate, but why are we so attracted to the past, to performances that are more than half a century old? This new high-quality reissue of the Debussy Debussy Concertos will make us feel even more strongly the strong will of François Debussy.High-quality sound sources not only excel in reproducing the multilayered sounds of orchestras and operas, but also allow the listener to appreciate the complex nuances of a single instrument such as the piano and the potential for a wide variety of expressive possibilities contained in a single move. In this sense, it is rare for a performer to be able to hear such diversity as François. We aimed to reproduce the musicality of François's style in the source material even more than before. We hope you will enjoy the highest sound quality, including some of the recordings from 1961, which are being made available on SACD for the first time. The SACD layer on the CD layer aims for a realistic tone that is pushed out with a cohesive and solid sound. Please enjoy it as a SACD hybrid disc where you can enjoy the best of both worlds. The commentary is newly written by Hiro Ichiba. The cover photo is the design of the album recorded in 1961. (1/2)
