Smetana’s “My Homeland” is being released immediately!! The “Mucha Exhibition,” which will be held at the National Art Center, Tokyo, in Roppongi starting March 8, 2017, traces the legacy of Alfons Mucha [1860–1939]. This marks the first time in the world that all 20 works of the masterpiece *The Slav Epic* are being exhibited together outside the Czech Republic. Comprising 20 massive oil paintings—each measuring approximately 6 meters high by 8 meters wide (20 panels in total). Inspired by Smetana’s “My Homeland,” Mucha dedicated the latter half of his life—beginning at age 50—to creating this masterpiece, which symbolically depicts the history of the Slavic peoples. This release features Smetana’s “My Homeland”—which includes “The Moldau,” a piece that resonates deeply with Japanese audiences—using a recording conducted by Paavo Berglund, whose work has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years, alongside imagery from “The Slav Epic.” The CD jacket and booklet feature full-color reproductions of all 20 paintings. This release highlights this exhibition and Slavic art through Mucha’s paintings and Smetana’s music.
