Mastodon is a heavy metal act with a unique presence in the current metal scene, and is considered to be "the band that bears the future of metal" with its unique and addictive heaviness. In 2014, three years after their last album "The Hunter," which reached #10 on the U.S. charts and was nominated for a Grammy Award, the band finally completed their latest album "Once More Round the Sun," their sixth in total! The Mastodons have chosen Nick Raskulinecz, known for his work with Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains, Rush, Deftones, and others, to produce this latest release. The newest album, produced in the fall of 2013 at Nick's Falcon Rock Studio in Nashville, is an evolution of their signature sound of intricate melodic lines, addictive, earth-shaking, heavyweight grooves, and spiraling riffs that draw the listener in. The band's sound has been further evolved and the essence of the band Mastodon seems to have been sealed in every note of this work.The Mastodons are sometimes seen as an esoteric band because of their unique sound, but listen to "High Road," the first single from the new album, which Bill Kelliher describes as "a heavier version of Neurosis and The Melvins, with a pop sensibility in the chorus, You can feel their continuous evolution. The doomy polyrhythmic sound of "High Road" is followed by a melodic line that seems to flap its wings during the chorus part, and the song alone is a sensation of unparalleled exuberance. With their latest album, "Once More Round the Sun," which they say was influenced by everything they have experienced as a band called Mastodon, they are climbing to heights that no one has ever reached before...!
