As a nearly complete collection, this is a valuable set spanning from the peak of Schumann’s creative period to his late works, which include pieces with opus numbers exceeding 100. When this box set was first released on CD in Japan in 1989, it cost over ¥14,000. After being reissued as a limited edition in 1995 for ¥9,000, individual tracks were sold separately, but the complete set—excluding imported editions—had not been reissued since. These rich and evocative performances by masters such as Yubo, the Via Nova Quartet, Kose, and Pierlo are a masterpiece that allows listeners to rediscover the new charms of Schumann’s chamber music when heard as a complete collection. Led by Yubo and supported by an ensemble composed primarily of young musicians, this recording sincerely conveys the essence of Schumann. This album can certainly be considered a masterpiece that will continue to reign as a standard for years to come.
