Often mentioned in the same breath as Yubaud’s recordings, this set was recorded between the ages of 63 and 65, while Dwyan was a professor at the Paris Conservatory (1941–1977). Since he left behind very few recordings, this complete collection of Fauré’s works stands as a particularly valuable historical record. Dwyan, who won first prize at the Fauré Music Competition in 1937 at the age of 30, has delivered outstanding performances as a master of Fauré’s works, alongside Ravel. This recording captures the culmination of his artistic achievements. Free from excessive emotional investment and seemingly conveying Fauré’s music with faithful precision, this recording stands as a historic masterpiece that will be cherished by future generations. It is worth noting that, unlike the Gaveau piano used for his recordings of Ravel and others, a Bösendorfer was used for this Fauré recording. The subtle nuances of that sound are another delight to be found in listening to this album.
