Iranian master filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf has created a beautiful masterpiece by weaving a story of a young girl's single-minded love with the motif of the traditional carpet "Gabbeh" in his gentle brushstrokes. The colorful carpets (Gabbeh) rustling in the wind, the blue sky piercing through, and the earth gently receiving human life. The dancing colors and overflowing poetic sentiments eventually move the viewer in a quiet way. Makhmalbaf's resistance to the traditional Iranian family structure is reflected in the story of a young girl's unforgivable love. Although the film was banned in Iran, it was highly acclaimed abroad, especially in Europe, and won the Best Artistic Contribution Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival, and was officially entered in the "Un Certain Regard" section at the Cannes International Film Festival, making Makhmalbaf's incomparable talent known to the world. This is the first Makhmalbaf film to be introduced in Japan.
Makhmalbaf says, "Today we have lost all color." With this film, Makhmalbaf attempts to restore the "color" that has been lost from Iranian society due to political turmoil and war. Finally, the long-awaited first domestic Blu-ray release in high-definition HD master.
