Description:
Two of Haydn's symphonies, "Taiko Renshi" and "Taiko Mass," featuring the OLC, CLC, and soloists led by Hidemi Suzuki, are presented on this disc! Recorded from the 42nd subscription concert of Orchestra Libera Classica (OLC), this disc features Haydn's "Taiko Renmei" and "Taiko Mass," both of which feature the timpani in full swing! The OLC led by Hidemi Suzuki, the Coro Libero Classico (CLC), and the talented solo singers perform these pieces! Symphony No. 103 "Taiko Renshitsu" begins with the introduction of a series of timpani. Timpani player Jun Sugawara's dynamic performance accentuates the appeal of this unique work. Also appealing is the prominent appearance of the clarinet in the third movement's Menuetto trio. And the horn fanfare at the beginning of the last movement also expresses the glamour of this work. The Mass in C major, Hob. XXII: 9, "Mass in Time of War," also known as the "Drum Mass," is another work in which timpani appear to great effect. It is a mass with a mixture of pious and warlike atmosphere. The chorus is provided by the Coro Libero Classico (CLC), a group of specialists in ancient music founded by members of the vocal ensemble "La Fonte Verde. The soloists include Saki Nakae, a soprano who has attracted attention for her overwhelming singing ability, Naoko Fuse, alto, Yosuke Taniguchi, tenor, and Yoshitaka Ogasawara, bass, all of whom are talented singers. Bilingual translation of the lyrics is included. Please enjoy these two major works, in which timpani makes a meaningful appearance, performed by the OLC and CLC, as well as by the soloists!
