Cellist Gaillard is renowned for his intimate tone and emotionally rich music. His latest album features a collection of Vivaldi concertos. In addition to concertos featuring solo cello and an ensemble, Gaillard’s program includes concertos featuring two to four soloists and an ensemble. The lineup of guest soloists is equally impressive, featuring cellist Atsushi Sakai (winner of the Hideo Saito Memorial Award, the Record Academy Award, and other honors) and Javier Zafrá, bassoonist with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra. Vivaldi composed three cello concertos around 1737 for a young cellist named Teresa (born 1721) who was at the Pietà orphanage. Unfortunately, only the viola parts of these works have survived to the present day; here, Gaillard has reconstructed the slow movement of the Concerto in B-flat major, titled “For Teresa.” Furthermore, he has inserted the cadenza from the Violin Concerto in C major, RV 179/581. The opera *Andromeda Liberata* (RVAnh.117) is like a ray of light piercing through the clouds.
