Roussel, Albert (1869-1937)

Description:

First time out! The rock-like Roussel Symphony No. 3 by Charles Munch, who visited Japan three times during his lifetime, was recorded in stereo by NHK in Tokyo in October 1966, the last and only time he performed with a French orchestra, and the sound recording has survived. The three pieces are three of his best-known compositions, and to be able to hear him perform them in Tokyo is an unexpected news. The transformative Debussy and the French-inspired Fauré are superb, but the most surprising is Roussel's Symphony No. 3, which celebrates the 150th anniversary of his birth this year. It is an explosive performance filled with tremendous energy and power. In the last movement, Munsch's roar can often be heard, and the orchestra is unusually heated. The symphony is like a rock concert, and if you were there, you can taste a part of the excitement that must have been felt. King International
