A congressman and his equally devious wife work together to exact revenge on a group of traitors" (IMDb). The Netflix television series "House of Cards," starring Kevin Spacey, ran for six seasons and 66 episodes from 2013 to 2018. The "political thriller" drama became so popular that it earned a reputation for changing television. The music for the series was composed by Jeff Beal (1963-), a Los Angeles-based musician who focuses on the field of television. Beau Willimon, the creator of the series, said that the music was an essential element of the series, expressing the shifting psychology of the people in the rapidly unfolding drama with "a unique voice" while keeping an eye on the overall picture of each episode. The "House of Cards" symphony is an 83-minute orchestral work that brings the music of the series to life.It is based on "House of Cards" in Concert, which took place at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Miami, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Jersusalem. Composer Beer arranged the ten movements, from "Forward March" to "Making History," in chronological order, following the emotional and dramatic flow of the drama surrounding the Andawood family. The soundtrack instruments (electric bass, guitar, flugelhorn, etc.) and soprano voice have been retained in the orchestration for full orchestra. The "House of Cards" fantasy is an encore to the "Flute Concerto" for "Sharon Bezzerly von Barr," using the main title, the theme of Frank and Claire's "Love and Trickery," and Frank Underwood's puppeteer motif as material. Six Sixteen" is a "rapid-moderate-rapid" three-movement work for guitar and chamber orchestra.The title of the piece is taken from the "number of strings" of the original piece written for chamber music (six on the guitar, four times the number of strings on the string quartet instruments), and also indicates the time of day (6:16 AM), room number, street address, and special occasion, inspired by the "daydream" and "sense of memory" stories.
