Debut album by New York City-based Latvian composer Krisz Ausnieks. Ausnieks holds master's and doctorate degrees in music from Yale University and studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague, and is considered one of the most promising Latvian composers of the future. He is considered one of the most promising Latvian composers. Cathedral of the Heart" for saxophone, electric guitar, and percussion is an entirely notated work, strongly influenced by jazz, but containing no improvisations. It is not a "jazz trio" in which the individual instruments are entrusted with the functions of melody, harmony, and rhythm, but rather a dynamic "ensemble" of three instruments, reminiscent of the classical piano trios of Brahms, Schubert, and Mendelssohn. The work is composed in four parts, from "Cathedral of the Heart I" to "Cathedral of the Heart IV.This is a recording of a session in the studios of the Latvian Broadcasting Corporation by the jazz trio of Carlis Ausnieks, who studied Danish jazz, Matthijs Tudals, who studied at the Conservatory in Amsterdam, and Ivars Arutyunian, who built his career in Paris. The "Concerto for Electric Guitar and Orchestra," composed by Ausnieks in 2020, was given the subtitle "Spiral Winding Horizon. The title is a juxtaposition of the sound pattern used in one of the "motifs" and the Latvian word "horizon," which is rooted in Latvian mythology of the "weaver who untangles fate" and "entanglement, binding." Composed for the Korean-American guitarist JIJI, it was given its world premiere on December 11, 2021 at the "GOR Concert Hall" in Resekne, Latvia, with the Sinfonietta Riga under the baton of Normuns Schnee.
