Description:

The Complete Symphonies & Concertos of Contemporary Latvian Composer Imants Karninš, who worked in a wide range of genresImanz Karninš was born in Riga, Latvia, in 1941. His life was a tumultuous one, tossed about by the times, but as a composer he worked in a wide range of genres: symphonies, concertos, operas including the first "rock opera" of the Soviet era, oratorios, choral works, and music for film and theater. Also active in politics, in the 1960s he was the leader of the rock band "2xBBM," popular for its outspoken songs and hippie lifestyle, and for resisting the authorities' attempts to ban its performances. His consistent composition in a melodic and distinctly romantic style is also said to distinguish his presence in contemporary Latvian music. This album is a collection of orchestral works written by Karninš over a long period of time. The "Concerto for Orchestra" from 1963, when he was a student at the Academy of Music, is said to reflect the devastation of Latvia's streets and the fading faces of its people with its "lamentable, brownish-gray coloring".The monumental and dramatic "Symphony No. 1" and the kaleidoscopic "Symphony No. 2," with its kaleidoscopic shades of contrasting images, are from 1964 and 1965, respectively. The "Concerto for Orchestra" adds a touch of satire. The "Symphony No. 3" has a lightness that could be called pastoral. The music for the film "Blow, Wind," which is said to be the most beloved film in Latvia. Symphony No. 4" with bass guitar and drums, considered the first "rock symphony" in the "Eastern Bloc. Symphony No. 5" with a Latvian folk melody. The flag of Latvia, an independent country that had been cleverly covered with ashes throughout the Soviet era, once again flies from the tower of Riga Castle in "Symphony No. 6," with a ...... chorus. The "Oboe Concerto" juxtaposes the destructive and beautiful aspects of life. The "Symphony No. 7" reflects various scenes witnessed since childhood and the contemporary world. Santa Cruz," an arrangement of a musical "theme" written for Max Frisch's play of the same name. New recordings will be added to the already introduced recordings to be released. Tokyo M-Plus
