Christian Randall is an Estonian jazz pianist and composer born in 1978. He studied in Karlsruhe, London, and Manhattan, among other places, and was praised by Herbie Hancock as a “stunning pianist.” He began working on “After the Beginning of the End” during his stay in London in 2001, and it was premiered—along with other pieces—by the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra in 2003. This work unfolds in a style that fuses classical orchestral music with jazz improvisation. In the second half of the concert, he improvised arrangements of children’s songs originally composed by Estonia’s leading composers for the country’s once-popular television program “Enter Denter,” earning thunderous applause from the audience.
