Kaze Jitsukawa, a highly accomplished pianist who continues to perform both in Japan and abroad. The live recording of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2—a collaboration with the string quintet “Hama’s JACK,” an ensemble formed primarily of members of the NHK Symphony Orchestra that continues to pursue unique musical projects—is finally here! During the closure of Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall (January 2021–October 2022), the “Yokohama 18 Wards Concert” series is being held, touring cultural facilities such as halls and civic centers in each of Yokohama’s 18 wards to present concertos in chamber music arrangements. This CD follows the Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1 (BRAVO-10008), which was held in January 2022 and has already been released on CD. It features a live recording of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2, performed by Kaze Sanekawa and members of Hama’s JACK at the Yokohama Konan Ward Cultural Center Himawari no Sato on March 1, 2022. Soloist Fū Jitsukawa is a highly acclaimed young pianist who won third place (with no first prize awarded) and the Best Recital Award, and the Best Performance of a New Work Award at the Long-Thibaud-Crespin International Competition held at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris in 2015. In 2016, she won first prize and the Audience Award at the Calarello International Piano Competition in Italy. She is a highly acclaimed young pianist on the global stage. Hama no JACK, which performed alongside Kazumi Jitsukawa for this event, is a classical music ensemble organized as a specified non-profit organization (NPO). Composed primarily of members of the NHK Symphony Orchestra, it is dedicated to providing high-quality performances not only to general music fans but also to children, the elderly, and people with disabilities, and is renowned for the excellence of its performances. During a time when opportunities to experience live concerts had dwindled due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the “Yokohama 18 Wards Concert” series—made possible through the efforts of many involved—has delighted numerous fans as a project delivering high-quality chamber music primarily at music halls scattered throughout Yokohama City. This live recording, featuring young pianists and veteran musicians, serves as a valuable document of the “Yokohama 18 Wards Concert” series and has become a legendary performance that will long remain in the hearts of classical music fans.
