Aska Maret & Satoshi Kitamura

Description:

Asuka Murray and Satoshi Kitamura, a Duo that resonates with the sensibilities of two of Japan's leading musical composers. Based on Argentinean music, this is a creation that transcends the boundaries of categories, including four pieces commissioned from the genius composers Diego Schissi, Gerardo di Giusto, Nobuyuki Nakajima, and Miho Hazama. A sense of life, emotions of joy, anger, sorrow, prayer, and festivals... A gem of a performance that resonates in these confusing times! This is a gem of a duo work by Asuka Murray, a violinist who has supported the Japanese music world for many years and is active internationally, and Satoshi Kitamura, a virtuoso bandoneon player who is active in many fields, including live performances and performances for movies and TV dramas. The two first met in 2011, just after the Great East Japan Earthquake. At a time of turmoil, Asuka was impressed by Kitamura's sensitive playing and began working with him. Asuka is based in the U.S., but whenever she returns to Japan, they have continued to perform and deepen their music. The band is composed of bandoneon and violin, and while their music is based on Argentinean music, their compositions are diverse. Three of the duo's original compositions and four new pieces commissioned for the duo were written by a splendid group of composers, including Diego Scissi, Heraldo di Hiusto, Nobuyuki Nakajima, and Miho Hazama. As Asuka Murray says, "I want to weave the sound of the present age, connecting jazz, tango, alternative, and other genres. The music also expresses the thoughts and prayers of living in the "present" time. Beginning with the opening piece, which reflects on the events of Chernobyl, Fukushima, and 9.11, the performance is a prayer for peace, the breath of life, and festivals... The performance resonates with deep emotional expression. The last part is a requiem for 3.11. This sorrowful beauty is both sad and tender. The performance played with musical breath will move many people's hearts.
