Description:
Blues and R&B compilation that Brian Jones loved! A collection of classic songs and performances that delves into the roots of the Rolling Stones. Brian Jones was the founding leader of the Rolling Stones. Both Mick and Keith were led by Brian Jones to become the most powerful rock band in history. This is a compilation of the great performances by the giants of blues and R&B that Brian Jones and the Stones loved and took as their role model. You can enjoy the familiar songs played by the Stones and vocalized by M. Jagger with the original songs of Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Elmore James, Howlin' Wolf, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, and many others. This is a great introductory guide to blues, rock and roll, and roots music. Two songs each are included: Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters, C. Berry with "Around & Around" and "Carol," both important numbers for the Stones, and M. Waters with "Let's Fall in Love," which defined the image of the early Stones, and Brian's "Slide," which influenced Brian's slide guitar. The Stones' "I Can't Be Satisfied," which influenced Brian's slide guitar, is also included. Other highlights include Don Covay's "Mercy Mercy," Jimi Hendrix's first recording, with legendary session man Bernard Purdie on drums; Solomon Burke, a precocious prodigy who preached in church at the age of seven, whose "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love" is a favorite of M. Jagger's I Need You, You, You and the key song that spawned his performance of pointing at a girl in the audience. Bobby Womack's "It's All Over Now" debuted on Sam Cooke's label, and "Can I Get a Witness" by the face of Motown, Marvin Gaye. The Stones' cover of Irma Thomas' "Time Is On My Side" brought the song to everyone's ears. The Temptations sang "My Girl" and Otis Redding's "Pain In My Heart".Howlin' Wolf's "Little Red Rooster" is a lewd blues that no Stones fan should be unfamiliar with. Little Walter's "Confessin' The Blues," with its strong amplified harp, and Slim Harpo's "I'm A King Bee" are the source of the Stones' blackness. Many people may have come to know Buddy Holly's "Not Fade Away" and Bo Diddley's "Mona" from the Stones. The ultimate example is Robert Johnson on "Love In Vain Blues". Please feel the essence of the black music that Brian and the Stones listened to so much. Includes episodes from that time, detailed commentary of all the songs, and 8,400 characters. Japanese liner notes are included. Licensed by JASRAC, Japan Copyright Association.
