Janis Joplin's early and rare recordings! Audition recordings and a live performance at the Fillmore just before Monterey from Eternal Grooves' "ROCK OFF" series! Janis Joplin, the rock queen who lived by the blues and died suddenly at the age of 27. Her soulful shouts and overwhelming vocals are still popular today, and this collection includes rare pre-debut demo recordings and treasured live performances. She left Texas for Cisco to start singing, and this collection includes seven demo recordings that became her audition tape before she joined Big Brother & The Holding Company. The songs include "Apple Of My Eye," in which she introduces herself as "Janis Joplin," and "Down and Out," a cover by Bessie Smith, a black female singer whom Janis admired, as well as "Nobody Knows," made famous by Derek & The Dominos and E. Clapton. You can hear the precocious vocals of 22-year-old Janis on her own composition "Apple Of My Eye" and "Turtle Blues," which has become a live staple. And the second half of the album features a rare live performance before her debut. The second half includes a rare live performance at the Fillmore in San Francisco on May 27, 1967, just before she joined Big Brother & The Holding Company, a San Francisco psychedelic blues-rock band, and released her first album on a minor label. This is a rare live performance by the still unknown Janis just before her legendary performance at the Monterey Pop Fest three weeks later. In addition to songs like "Combination Of The Two" and "Roadblock," which were sure to bring the 200,000-strong Monterey crowd to its feet, the band also performed "Summertime," "High Heel Sneakers," and more. The master tape was recorded at the venue by a member of the audience, and the sound image of the guitar is very clear, which was rare for the time, in stereo. The vocals are a little far away, but it is a treasured live recording that conveys the atmosphere of this band, which was known for its roughness at the time.Here are the demo tapes from when he was only 22 years old and the historic performance from when he was 24 years old.
