Description:
The prestigious House of Schwarzenberg, based at Český Krumlov Castle in the Czech Republic, formed a new wind ensemble (Harmonimusik) in 1771, reviving the castle’s musical tradition. Although the wave of double-reed woodwind chamber music they pioneered reached its peak in Vienna in the late 18th century, it was subsequently forgotten for a long time. This series combines the vast collection of surviving sheet music with contemporary works in an effort to bridge the past and the present. Volume 1 features performances by the Ronark Oboe Trio of Beethoven’s Trio, Op. 87—written for the legendary virtuosos, the “Timmer Brothers,” who served the princely family and were active in the 1790s—as well as Variations on the Theme of “Ote o Dousho,” WoO 28. It also includes “Shadow Play” by contemporary oboe composer Roxborough, which makes full use of double-stop techniques, as well as his new folk-inspired piece “Raving Winds.” Naxos Japan
