He taught at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the University of Hull, and was active in many fields, including writing music criticism and collaborating with the poet Larkin. This album is the first volume of his complete piano works. It traces the trajectory of his 30-year compositional career, featuring numerous world premiere recordings—from his early *Five Preludes* to serialist miniatures, sonatas, and charming pieces for children. The performer is Adam Davies, who grew up in Beverly, the same hometown as Hedges. He studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and is currently active as the duo partner of the renowned pianist Catherine Stott and as a teacher at Cheatham Music School. Naxos Japan
