Trio Boccherini’s latest album is a collection of works from France and Belgium in the first half of the 20th century. Reflecting the “art of conversation” rooted in this region, the album captivates with its delicate ensemble playing, in which the three instruments resonate as if in dialogue. The members are all internationally acclaimed virtuosos. Violinist Kang Su-yeon is the ensemble’s founder and a virtuoso who joined the Belcha Quartet in 2023. Violist Vicki Powell serves as principal violist of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, while cellist Paolo Bonomini is a winner of the International Bach Competition. Since their formation in 2014, they have shared a lofty vision, and their meticulous interpretations shine through. The program features Clah, a work that blends exoticism with folk songs from their native Brittany; Ysaÿe’s weighty “Le Chimey,” which demands virtuosic technique from every instrument; the playful Jean Françaix; and Debussy’s “Clair de Lune,” arranged for string trio and brimming with serene beauty.
