[A Collection of Mature Works by Benoît Melnier, Where Poetry and Memory Intertwine] This monumental collection documents the evolution of Benoît Melnier’s long artistic journey—one of Belgium’s leading composers—and attests to the establishment of his own distinct identity, having moved beyond the influence of his mentor, Philippe Busmans. The two symphonic works included at the beginning form a striking contrast: the serene and meditative “Comme d’autres esprits,” inspired by the poetry of Baudelaire, and the joyful homage “Sur un ciel immense,” said to have been inspired by the laughter of his mentor, Busmans. This is followed by “Offering,” a duet for violin and piano that weaves together the poetry of Rabindranath Tagore with the deep, resonant voice of an alto. "Offering," followed by a duet for violin and piano that depicts fragments of memory in a lighthearted and playful manner. The title track, "Ustica," inspired by the poetry of Octavio Paz, magnificently portrays a meditation on life, death, and memory set against the backdrop of a volcanic island in the Mediterranean; the orchestral-like sound created by the chamber orchestra is a highlight.
