【CAPRICCIO Label's Focus on Little-Known Female Composers Series】 Leokadija Kasperova, known as "Stravinsky's Piano Teacher," studied under Anton Rubinstein and was highly regarded by contemporary composers such as Rimsky-Korsakov. From the late 19th to the early 20th century, she enjoyed success both in Russia and abroad as a pianist and composer, receiving great acclaim during her European concert tour in 1907. However, her activities were interrupted by her marriage in 1916 and the turmoil of the revolutionary period, and her works were long forgotten. In recent years, thanks to the research and critical editions of musicologist Graham Griffith, her work is finally being reevaluated. His Piano Concerto in A minor, composed in 1900 during his private teaching period with Stravinsky, was premiered by the composer himself in 1901. Based on the classical and romantic styles, it consists of three movements: a solemn opening, a dreamy andante, and a polonaise-style final movement, which form a vivid contrast.Her Symphony in B minor, composed in 1905, is her largest orchestral work. Walking the middle path between Western and Slavic traditions, it is suffused with Russian lyricism throughout, with song-like string melodies and woodwind themes leading to a bright conclusion in B major. Conductor Anna Skryleva, who served as General Music Director of the Magdeburg Theater from 2019 to 2025, has garnered attention for her ambitious activities. These include winning the 2024 OPUS KLASSIK Award (World Premiere Recording category) for her recording of Eugen Engel's opera "Grete Minde" (ORFEO). Naxos Japan
