In early 20th-century France, the environment surrounding female composers underwent significant change, broadening their paths to success in the arts. Armande de Polignac received a high-level musical education within this movement, leaving behind approximately 200 works across diverse genres including songs, piano pieces, chamber music, orchestral works, and opera. She studied under Fauré and D'Indy, honing her practical compositional techniques through viola performance and mastering wind instruments. Her works reflect an Eastern sensibility, and she also demonstrated enthusiasm for advanced techniques such as polyphony and polyrhythm. Though long forgotten after his death, his creative output has seen renewed appreciation in recent years. This album, featuring world premiere recordings, offers access to his diverse works: a prelude underpinned by classical balance, a nocturne in Debussy-esque impressionism, and "The Thousand and One Nights," where influences from Russian music intersect. Performing are Bruno Bertouard, a founding member of Trio Pangaea who has dedicated himself to introducing French and Portuguese music, including the world premiere recording of the "Portuguese Piano Trios" on Naxos, and João Costa Ferreira, a Portuguese pianist and researcher specializing in music from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
