Alan Pettersson, whose formative musical experience was his mother singing hymns. After working hard to become a viola player, he devoted himself to composition and gained international acclaim for his symphonies, which combine intense soundscapes with introspective expression in a unique style. Since 2010, Christian Lindberg and the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra have been engaged in an ambitious and unique project: performing and recording the complete orchestral works of Petterson. His Symphony No. 8, premiered in 1972, is his most famous and frequently performed work. Its "endless" melodies form a world filled with tension and introspection. Pettersson described this music as a mirror of his own life, embodying both blessing and severity. His Symphony No. 3, premiered in 1956, is the only one of his symphonies to adopt the traditional four-movement structure, revealing influences from Shostakovich, Sibelius, and Mahler. Naxos Japan
