This trombone collection by Liège-born composer Michel Furgon features soloist Alain Pire, who has served as principal trombonist of the Liège Philharmonic since 1978. It represents the culmination of their artistic collaboration spanning over two decades. Each piece draws inspiration from literary and historical elements—Goethe's poetry, Persian melodies, Italian Renaissance polyphony, and theatrical music—weaving rich narrative within the context of contemporary music. Quarter tones are actively incorporated. Notably, in 'The Mystery of Aphra', the chamber orchestra and period instrument orchestra are tuned to 440Hz and 430Hz respectively. The chamber orchestra features flute, oboe, and trombone, while the period instrument orchestra includes traverso, baroque oboes, and sackbuts as soloists.
