【Rudin Delves into Miaskovsky's Solitary Musical World】 The second installment (third if counting the NAXOS release) of Miaskovsky's works by Moscow-born cellist and conductor Alexander Rudin with the Ural Youth Symphony Orchestra, featuring FUGA LIBERA. "Alastar," dedicated to his friend Prokofiev, is a symphonic poem written in 1912-13 based on the poem by the British poet Shelley. It depicts a Byronic hero, reflecting Miaskovsky's heightened interest in tragic imagery and philosophical conflict. Composed in 1922, Symphony No. 7 was regarded by the composer himself as a turning point, achieving "freedom of form and conciseness of expression" after the turbulent period of World War I and the Russian Revolution. The Night at the Kremlin, making its studio recording debut, is a cantata based on Sergei Vasiliev's poem. It portrays the Kremlin as an ancient, secret guardian, focusing on poetic imagery of an old woman personifying the night, the wind, and history. The tenor aria possesses an epic, Rimsky-Korsakov-like musical conception, while the soprano aria is based on one of Myaskovsky's most heartfelt lullaby melodies.Rudyn emphasizes that this cantata is entirely free from political propaganda, stating it is a composer's inner confession of love for his homeland, rich in history and art.
