Clara Schumann was a virtuoso pianist who was admired by some of the most celebrated pianist-composers of her day, including Liszt and Thalberg. This album, the second in a four-volume series, features works that Clara arranged for piano from those of her husband Robert. In the overture to the opera "Genofefa," Clara skillfully recreates the thickness of the orchestra on the piano, and in the "Exercises for Pedal Piano," she beautifully transfers the complex counterpoint to the piano piece. In his arrangements of songs, Robert's writing style is outstanding, as it does not run to ultra-technicality, but rather brings out the beauty of the original. The most notable feature is the simple and pure sound of "Dedication," which is well known for its arrangement by Franz Liszt. Armengaud is known as a leading authority on French music, and is highly regarded as a specialist in Impressionist and Expressionist works. He is known for his supple, flowing playing and mellow tone, and has recorded complete works by Debussy, Dutilleux, and others, performing in major concert halls around the world. Naxos Japan
