Description:

The charm of the carefully selected music and exquisite interpretation that conquers the charm of the 1893 edition. Fauré's Requiem is one of the greatest treasures of modern French vocal music. After several years of fine-tuning following the completion of the first draft in 1887 and its premiere in January of the following year, the work was first performed in its presently known movement structure in January 1893. Due to restrictions at the Madeleine Church, where Fauré was the official organist, the singers were limited to male voices, and the orchestra was composed of strings without violins, with brass and without woodwinds, except for the solo part in the "Sanctus". Here, the Royal Opera House of Versailles Orchestra, renowned for its interpretation of ancient music instruments and techniques adapted to each work, will be joined by a chorus with female voices and two up-and-coming soloists, and conducted by Victor Jacob, the winner of the 2023 "Revelation" award at the prestigious Victoire Music Prize. Victor Jacob will conduct this production. The first half of the album features a variety of 19th-century choral works about life and death, selected mainly from German-speaking composers, as if to draw closer to the musical knowledge of Fauré, who was deeply devoted to German-speaking composers of the Classical and Romantic periods in Paris at the turn of the century.Combined with the exquisite interpretation of the performance, which does not neglect the smallest detail, this composition offers a multifaceted taste of the essence of Fauré's artistry.
