Description:
Carl Reinecke was a composer, pianist, and educator who celebrated the bicentennial of his birth in 2024. He made a significant mark as a professor at the Leipzig Conservatory and conductor of the Gewandhaus Orchestra, and his oratorio "Belshazzar," premiered in 1859, is a magnificent and powerful work about the conflict between the God-fearing Israelites and the blasphemous Babylonians, and was successfully premiered in Breslau. He did not compose another oratorio until about 20 years later with "Sommertagsbilder (Concert Pieces for Chorus and Orchestra), Scenes from a Summer's Day. It was first performed and published in 1881, and was dedicated to the Gewandhaus Orchestra and the Choral Society. This beautiful work shows the influence of his predecessor, conductor Nils W. Göse (Garde), in his "Summer Days in the Country". The Gewandhaus Choir, one of the groups to which the dedication is dedicated, is once again breathing new life into this large-scale work, just in time for Reinecke's 200th birthday. Naxos Japan
