Description:
Frank Peter Zimmermann, born in 1965, has been a star German violinist since his early years, and has continued to make a name for himself internationally. He has been praised as an "orthodox violinist who takes the high road," and he is also praised for his attitude of carefully perfecting his repertoire before performing it, without being carried away by current trends or frivolity. In recent years, Zimmermann has been interested in Bartók and other Eastern European composers, and from 2019-21, he recorded Bartók's Solo Violin Sonata (BISSA2457) and Two Rhapsodies (BISSA2657) for BIS. This release features two sonatas for violin and piano. The piano of Dmytro Choni from Ukraine, with whom he has been collaborating since 2023, is also noteworthy. The exotic atmosphere and mysterious colors of this piece are beautifully expressed, and he is able to compete with Zimmermann, who is about as old as a father and son. (C)RS
