Description:

Haydn's early ambitious work, with every detail fresh under the exquisite direction of Jacobs! The "Father of the Symphony" Haydn wrote this ambitious work in 1766, the year he was promoted to court music director of the Marquis Nikolaus Esterházy, the longest serving prince in his life, under the baton of René Jacobs, who will conduct this concert in Japan in spring 2025 after 30 years of successful tour. The Basel Chamber Orchestra, well-known for its Haydn 2032 recording series conducted by Antonini, and the Zurich Singakademie, another up-and-coming Swiss vocal ensemble, will perform the Haydn symphonies together. In this recording, Jacobs performs the Mass in C major, the longest of Haydn's early works and by far the longest of all his masses. The work was once called the "Mass of St. Cecilia" due to a misprint in the manuscript, but an autograph of the Mass was found in the late 20th century, confirming that it was composed for the Mariazell Church in Austria, as was another Mass, Hob.XXII:8, composed in 1782.As one would expect from a conductor who thoroughly pursues the relationship between the subtle nuances of the lyrics and the musical details, Jacobs deeply reads the 17 verses that make up the entire Mass and weaves a vivid drama of shadows and shadows with a sense of unity among the performers. The two female soloists from Scandinavia, Jákops and Two female soloists from Scandinavia and male soloists from the U.K. and Chile also provided rewarding interpretations of arias and polyphonies. This is a masterful performance that reminds us that Haydn's unique subtleties, well known in symphonic music, were applied to other fields of music from early on. Naxos Japan
