Co-produced by Palazzetto Bru Zane (the French Romantic Music Center), Alpha Classics, and Radio France, this is an excellent project that sheds light on the unknown motets of the French Romantic period. It includes works not only by well-known composers, but also by rare female composers such as Clemens de Grandval, Charlotte Soy, and Mel Bonis. These works are characterized by the rich sound of the chorus and the vivid colors of the harp, violin, and other instruments in addition to the organ, and the harmony and melody, which are characteristic of the Romanticism that effectively uses dissonances, create a sound that is sentimental or seductive rather than ascetic.
