Ensemble Louise Farrenc

An album of chamber music works by three intergenerational women composers, Louise Falank, who will celebrate the 150th anniversary of her death in 2025, was born into an artistic family, and her parents naturally accepted women in artistic careers, which allowed her to receive an excellent education. at age 15. She studied composition with Anton Reicher and at age 17 married flutist Aristide Falank, whose husband supported her compositional activities and promoted her work by touring throughout Europe. Her Piano Quintet, influenced by Hummel, is a work of perfection reminiscent of Schubert's "Mas" with its skillful compositional technique and delicate, melancholy themes that captivate the audience. On the other hand, Melanie Bonis (Boni), born in 1858, had difficulty in making a name for herself as a composer. This Piano Quartet in B-flat major was written during a turbulent time of marriage and childbirth. The gloomy first movement, followed by a floating second movement and a deeply sad third movement, ends dramatically with a passionate finale Elena Firsova, born in Leningrad in 1950, is one of the major contemporary Russian composers, along with Sofia Gubaidulina. She studied composition at the Moscow Conservatory and married composer Dmitry Smirnov. Both were important partners in the music world, and with the support of their mentor, Edison Denisov, their works have been performed in the West. Firsova sees music and love as the ultimate elements of life, and this Piano Quartet No. 1 was commissioned by the Austrian chamber music concert series Pforte in 2016 with great success. It is also notable for the participation of Mayumi Kanekawa. Naxos Japan
