Jan Willem de Vriend, Hannover North German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra

Emilie Meyer chose to become a composer at the age of 30. This decision was unusual for a woman of her time, but she studied with Karl Röwe in Stettin and Adolf Bernhard Marx in Berlin. Influenced by the Viennese school of music, she left behind numerous works. Symphony No. 6 on the album was written in 1853. The first movement is beautiful with lyrical string sounds, and the following second movement is a fragmentary funeral march with a meditative atmosphere. The third movement is a cheerful and playful scherzo, and the final movement is an elaborate intertwining of the sounds of the various instruments, culminating in a powerful conclusion. His arrangement was based on the naturalistic orchestration of the 19th century, and was written in the style of the original orchestral score. His arrangement is characterized by the use of brass instruments that emphasize the natural overtones of the 19th century, and while referring to Schumann's orchestration, it also reflects Meyer's compositional intention to value solo instruments. The second theme, which turns to D major, was highly praised by Talcman, who said, "It is as original as a hymn. The second movement is in E major, and the violin-driven melody blends with the wind instruments to create a beautiful scene. The third movement begins with a plunging violin melody, which is joined by the winds and develops into a counterpoint. In the fourth movement, the B minor theme reappears, bringing the piece to a lively and exhilarating conclusion. Naxos Japan
